Germany

During my DPhil studies, I am also affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock, one of the world’s leading demographic research centers. As part of this affiliation, I spend approximately one month each year in Rostock, participating in training sessions, seminars, and engaging with peers at the International Max Planck Research School for Population, Health, and Data Science. My research at MPIDR is under the supervision of Dr. Angelo Lorenti, a research scientist at the Laboratory of Labour Demography.

The beach in Rostock

I thoroughly enjoy life in Rostock, especially during the summer, as it offers a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle of big city life. The small-town atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and I particularly appreciate the sunshine and proximity to the beach, even as I continue to work on improving my German. The only thing I find myself missing in Rostock is access to great Chinese food. However, the MPIDR provides an excellent environment for research, with fantastic summer weather and a peaceful community close by. Each visit to Rostock provides me with valuable insights from some of the world’s leading demographers.
